This stunning castle offers you the opportunity to taste the real style of Ireland, with oak panelled sitting room and elegant dining room overlooking the waterfront, both these rooms retaining most of the original furniture and family portraits. The castle has always remained the home of the Townshend family, as it has been passed down through the generations, and the present family who live here are the Cochrane-Townshends, Mrs Cochrane-Townshend being a descendant of the original Townshends who came here in 1649. Castle Townshend has been the seat of the Townshend family in Ireland for many generations, and the centre part was built around 1650. It stands in spacious grounds facing southeast, overlooking the peaceful waterfront of Castletownshend harbour.

There are 7 guest bedrooms that are let out for bed and breakfast. These are all en-suite with bathroom or shower room and most of them have lovely sea views.

The village of Castletownshend is centered around the steep main road that leads down to the castle, the quayside and the harbour. There are a number of pubs in the village, including the Egon Ronay listed pub and restaurant Mary Anne's; there's also a post office and a shop.

Self Catering: there are 4 cottages within the castle grounds and an apartment to choose from, the apartment being in the west wing of the castle itself. The apartment sleeps 2 people, two of the cottages sleep 2 people, one sleeps 4, and the other 5/6.
