Self-Catering Cottage, Westport, Co. Mayo
Luxury self-catering cottage, 2 bedrooms, Sleeps four.

Westport is situated on the edge of Clew Bay and we are less than 2 miles from the town centre, yet close enough to the quay for state of the art supermarket/bars/ cafes/gift shops etc. Westport is a town unique to any other, especially in the west of Ireland due to its architectural design. It has the River Carrow running through its heart and there are a vast selection of shops to keep the keenest shopaholic happy! The town won the ultra prestigious Tidy Town Award last autumn and is soon to become bedecked in hanging baskets and beautiful flower borders along the shopping streets. There is plenty of night life to suit the younger set, i.e. clubs, music in most bars, and there are a fine selection of restaurants to suit all budgets.
For the family holidaymaker, Westport House -stately home of Lord Altamont- is the big attraction and this year has included Jungle World, Flume Ride, Swan Pedaloes, Slippery Dip, Bird and Animal Park and a delightful miniature train. We overlook the grounds and is a few minutes walk from here.
There is also a Leisure Park with a 25m swimming pool and they offer the children weekly activity camps at a reasonable rate so parents can enjoy a few hours 'off' for themselves.

Three Blue Flag beaches are within a few minutes car ride from here, each offering golden sands. Delphi Adventure Centre is about 20 minutes away and offers a wide range of more 'exciting' activities such as kayaking, surfing, rock climbing etc.
Westport is also a place of pilgrimage due to its proximity to Croagh Patrick, (this is Ireland's holy mountain) less than 5 miles from here and indeed the town is dominated by this majestic mountain - it is like an upturned wizard's hat and the last Sunday of July sees at least 30,000 people climbing 'the reek' as it is called by locals. There is plenty of opportunity for the walking enthusiast, a golf course, fishing, horse riding, or just a quiet stroll along the coast.
Connemara is also a tempting area to visit and only a few miles along the road you are in the midst of 'Quiet Man' and 'The Field' country with its own wealth of beauty and places to visit, Kylemore Abbey and Killary Harbour (Ireland's only fjord) being but two.
